The Key to success: Organization

Updated: Jun 20, 2020

The word organization comes from the Greek word “organon”, which means tool, instrument, musical instrument, or organ. More importantly, it’s a word we probably see or think about more than 1000 times a month, well, give or take! How many times have you been asked in an interview, “are you organized?” Or how many have thought, “wow, this house needs organizing”. We have so many perceptions of the word; however, the one thing that’s truly important is being organized enough to fully accomplish all your goals and aspirations!

So, today we wanted to break down some tips for you on how we can help you become organized, more efficient, and more effective at your job and home life!

Here we go…

1) Write things down!

Okay, so this is probably the first thing everyone says… but it does help! I’ve always been one to write things down. I actually would make a small square box for each task that was due that day, so when it’s completed I would check that item off.

Keeping your to-do lists and other information written somewhere allows you to look back at it anytime and be more efficient.

2) Schedule!

Schedule, Schedule…oh, did we say Schedule? You need to create a schedule of all your tasks at hand. It’s also important to think about the due date of the tasks well.

I just want to loop back to writing things down, these tasks can be goals you want to accomplish today such as sending in that resume or it can be goals on where you want to be in the next 10 years. With that, as an experiment, look at your bucket list (or make one). Write down the things you want to achieve this year or in your life and create a schedule.

3) Procrastination!

I don’t like the word procrastination because I like to get things DONE! But I won’t lie; I sometimes fall into that hole and procrastinate… like this blog. It’s been months since I wrote a blog specifically for my own website. But I’m making new goals for my company and realigning why I should at least have one blog a month. It really is true, the longer you wait to do something, the more difficult it will be to get it done.

4) Organize & De-clutter Your Home!

It really is easy to get lost and unorganized if your home/life is disorganized. I’m not sure about you, but I can’t get anything done when I see my daughter’s toys all over the house, unwashed clothes… it drives me crazy. I’m not saying I’m perfect; the house does get turned upside down at times. There are five of us living here (three humans and two fur kids) so it’s bound to happen. However, it really is important to come home and work in an organized environment.

As an experiment, look at your schedule and find a time to organize, then do it. More importantly, a cluttered or disorganized home or workspace impacts your physical health.

Organization helps you do the following things:

  1. Improves sleep

  2. Reduces stress

  3. Improves your relationships

  4. Reduces depression and anxiety

Oh, and it makes you more productive!!

A great article written by Ralph Ryback M.D. really sheds more light on how to stay organized and reap health benefits. Find more information here.

5) Technology!

We have so many great apps these days, so why not use them! As a parent, we now need to coordinate our schedules more efficiently and effectively. We now have swimming lessons, birthday parties, and play dates! I’ve been on autopilot since the little one came into the world and I’ve been on the hunt for a great app!

Organize your life with:

  • Wunderlist - A free app with the ability to create a to-do list, reminders, and more!

  • Todoist – Another free app that is ideal for those quick reminders about groceries, as well as more extensive tasks.

  • FamCal – We ended up paying for this one but so worth it! It cost $20 a year and it’s a shared family calendar app that combine calendars, events, tasks, notes, contacts and birthday reminders!!

Today, why not find an app that works for your lifestyle? It will help you stay on track and keep your organized! I still have my daily notebook, there’s just something about writing a task down that helps me remember.

6) Create Structure and ask for HELP!

I’m all about structure, I need to know and plan when something is happening in advance. Outline the steps of what you need to do and the order in which you need to do them to get through a particular part of the day. This will make your life SO much easier! Lastly, it’s ok to ask for HELP! Whether it’s from your partner, friend, or family member, they are there to help.

Now lets swing back in on how we can HELP you! Entrepreneurs start their ventures with bold visions and big plans. However, it’s all too easy to get bogged down by the mundane tasks as you build a business empire. We can help business owners with the day-to-day running of their business from administrative tasks to marketing!
